Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Terre Haute team is seeking a Plant Manager. This role will direct plant operations for a medium size site to achieve the targets set in the strategic and annual production plan. Implement the strategy for the Novelis Operating System (NOS), ensuring production targets are met within set cost, quality, and delivery while adhering to safety and environmental policies. Additionally, the Plant Manager will lead employee performance, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with regulations to improve business value.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the safety of every employee, contractor, and visitor in the plant.
  • Leads the performance and engagement of plant employees.
  • Engage and partner with local government, business, and community leaders
  • Embody and demonstrate the company's culture and values in relationships with the local community, customers, suppliers, commercial partners, and with the plant workforce and other professional organizations. Act as a model of the company’s principles.
  • Represent Novelis in key community events
  • Operations and Cost efficiency
  • Improve value for the business by implementing the Novelis Operating System (NOS) to achieve a mature and sustainable level of manufacturing excellence (the Gold Standard)
  • Lead and direct the operational activities to meet the agreed production targets within planned level of cost, quality, and product delivery schedules
  • Deliver the short-, medium- and long-term plant targets (e.g., Annual Plan, Strategic Plan, Vision 3x30 critical metrics, etc.)
  • Drive continuous improvement activities and methodology
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and handle the plant's budget, ensuring that resources are used efficiently, and expenses are within cost targets.
  • Ensure investments made in the plant yield a profitable return
  • Leverage all relevant resources and partners to deliver and exceed safety, operations and cost targets with an entrepreneurial spirit

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business or Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with 7+ years of that time spent in supervisory or leadership roles.
  • Must have shown leadership skills to advise, lead and influence as required to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships with employees and key partners
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills and skills to prepare and deliver presentations
  • Knowledgeable in EHS management and application of practical EHS techniques have been demonstrated.
  • Must be able to prepare and handle the plant budget.
  • Must have a broad financial and eye for business to be able to apply financial principles ensuring decisions are fiscally sound and responsible.
  • Must have demonstrated critical thinking and a track record of achieving short- and long-term goals.
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work
  • Proficiency in software applications, including Microsoft Office, and quick learning of new technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Engineering or related field.
  • Education in business / supply chain management to complement engineering/technical degree.
  • Previous plant or large manufacturing unit management experience.
  • Experience working with multiple equipment systems and have worked in at least two different manufacturing systems.
  • Experience leading cultural transformations.
  • Experience leading operations in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Certified Manufacturing Engineer

Location Profile

Novelis’ Terre Haute facility is located in the center of the Wabash Valley about an hour drive from Indianapolis. The region is named for the nearby Wabash River. The facility’s 175 employees produce world-class light gauge aluminum that is used in the production of aluminum foil containers and household foil. Through the Novelis Neighbor program employees enjoy long-term partnerships with the United Way Habitat for Humanity Salvation Army and many other nonprofits providing support in Safety STEM and Recycling.
