Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Lincolnshire team is seeking a Process Engineer. This position is responsible for assisting in the development of the cold rolling, annealing, tension leveling, and slitting processes and providing all necessary support to contribute to the achievement of the plant’s safety, quality, production, sustainability, and budget objectives. This position will support the activities of others related to the processes and keep current with the constantly evolving technology, balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in process control and problem-solving methods.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely, in compliance with all corporate, plant, local, state and federal safety rules and regulations, and staying on top of current policies and procedures, ensuring outside vendors/contractors align with the same.
  • Investigate, develop and provide recommended solutions for any safety issues related to plant equipment requiring field or project engineering as assigned.
  • Establish, complete and audit routine management for the site with KPI, CIV and COV monitoring/control charts.
  • Work alongside operators and other manufacturing unit staff as needed for RCAs to solve and prevent problems that impact product quality and productivity.
  • Identify areas of potential advancements in the processes, equipment, and facility to achieve increased profitability through reduced costs, increased efficiency, improved quality, increase production output and optimized equipment uptime.
  • Ensure that the processes result in a product that meets or exceeds our internal and external customer expectations.
  • Understand and be mindful of any process projects including budget control, schedule, and compliance with safety, environmental and sustainability requirements, to assure performance against expectations.
  • Continually review control plans, work instructions, process methods, equipment, and technology for robustness, reliability, and obsolescence. Develop plans for modifications and/or upgrades as needed.
  • Ensure all processes remain aligned with relevant requirements, including Customer’s, applicable portions of ASTM B209, Aluminum Association, and ISO 9001:2015.
  • Must be able to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. (Mechanical, Industrial, or Metallurgical Engineering is preferred).
  • Must have strong computer skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI) and SPC software.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and persuasively to all levels of the organization.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives.
  • Hard skills in problem-solving and complex data analysis.
  • Proven technical and process leadership skills to advise, coach and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives.
  • Desire to take initiative and develop a proactive relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and encouraging a collaborative relationship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of aluminum rolling processes, including hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing, tension leveling, slitting, and painting of aluminum coils.
  • 3 - 5 years of professional experience in process engineering.
  • Background in Lean / Six Sigma principles (Green/Black Belt) and A3 problem solving methodology.
  • Experience in maintaining compliance with ISO 9001:2015, ASTM, and/or Aluminum Association standards.

Location Profile

The finishing mill in Lincolnshire Illinois is located 26 miles from Chicago and was established in 1966.  The facility cold rolls aluminum to a desired gauges anneals to tempers levels and slits the rolled sheet to size.  The facility which employees around 100 people produces mill finish coils for the building construction and transportation industries where its’ products are used for gutters siding soffits and facia.  Lincolnshire is committed to the local community through its ongoing volunteer initiatives with a number of local organizations.
