General Machinist – Terre Haute

Operate conventional lathes, milling machines, roll grinder machines for the production of rolls and machined parts to ordered specifications. Along with the main duties, there would be the need for operation of cranes and hoists, hand tools, calipers, tapes, rules, etc. Precision instruments such as micrometer, vernier/calipers, bore gauge, depth micrometer, profilometer, hardness tester, balancing equipment, diamond tools, etc.

· Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in machine shop practice as well as plant safety procedures.

· Knowledge of conventional machining methods as this shop has no CNC machining.

· Knowledge of the principles and techniques of machine shop practice.

· Knowledge of the methods used in shaping metal to precise dimensions.

· Knowledge of the terminology, print reading, coding, symbols, and standard abbreviations used in machine shop practice.

· Knowledge of the types and uses of tools, equipment and materials used in machine shop practice.

· Knowledge of the types and uses of precision measuring equipment and devices such as micrometers, calipers, rulers, etc.

· Skill in using machine shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, bench sanders, etc.

· Skill in the use of precision measuring equipment and devices such as micrometers, calipers, rulers, etc.

· Skill in using small hand tools such as reamers, drills, sanders, taps, dies, etc.

· Skill in using small hand-held power tools such as drills, electric hand saws, etc.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.

· Ability to make arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).

· Ability to maintain accurate records.

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

· Ability to set up and operate roll grinding machine to obtain specified shapes, sizes and finishes used throughout the Plant.

· Ability to use cranes, trucks, and other equipment to handle material, rolls, bearing wheels, etc.

- Minimum 10 years of conventional machine shop experience
