Position Overview:

The Novelis Kennesaw Global Research and Technology Joining & Forming team is seeking an engineering co-op. The person in this role will report to Senior Engineer of Joining and Forming team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for aluminum alloy joining process development, testing, and reporting. This position will play a crucial role in supporting product and process development. The co-op starts May 2026 and ends December 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature research about current joining methods and practices for the proposed material combinations.
  • Develop high performance welding solutions for automotive applications including fundamental investigation and optimization of weld filler metal for various end uses.
  • Conduct tests and analyze results
  • Document and report research findings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s student in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or relevant fields
  • Strong commitment to safety and effective team collaboration
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in laser welding, metallography, mechanical testing and electron microscopy
  • Good writing and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD student in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Welding or relevant fields
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Experience in Design of Experiment, data analytics, and modeling/simulation
  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience, preferably with laser processing
  • Proven record in conference presentation and journal publication
