Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is looking for an Environmental Engineer. This role will coordinate the significant environmental permitting and compliance activities during the construction phase of the project and ultimately for being responsible for the overall plant environmental programs. The position will be accountable for environmental management including development and implementations of controls, policies, and procedures to achieve and maintain compliance with all regulatory, permit or license requirements for the plant.

Responsibilities:

  • Adopt the Novelis Safety Absolutes to build a zero-injury culture and the Novelis cultural beliefs of Be Authentic, Say Anything, Be Open and Built Trust.
  • Handle air permits and ensure compliance with Title V, NSPS, MACT, and NESHAP regulations.
  • Maintain emissions inventories and reporting for furnaces, kilns, and other sources.
  • Lead all aspects of CEMS data, stack testing, and air dispersion modeling.
  • Support operation and maintenance of air pollution control equipment (e.g., baghouses, scrubbers).
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions related to air emissions.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and support audits and inspections.
  • Train staff on air compliance and permit conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years in air compliance within metals or heavy manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of air permitting and emissions control technologies.
  • Experience with environmental software and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PE license or eligibility.
  • ISO 14001 experience.
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma in environmental processes.

Location Profile

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
