Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Terre Haute, IN team is seeking a dynamic and experienced Process Engineer. This role will continuously work on process improvements and controls to ensure that customer’s needs are being met in changing market conditions. Additionally, the Engineer will develop operating procedures for to achieve a world class organization, through effective communication, training, coaching and mentoring to ensure all levels of the organization understand how their roles have an impact on the plant’s EHS, production, recovery, customers’ satisfaction and quality performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and practice good safe working practices, through compliance with all federal, state, local and Novelis programs, procedures, and regulations
  • Support the plants EHS processes by actively participating in the plants PSEA Audits.
  • Validate the conditions of the mill gauge system through routine checks
  • Compile reports to trend mill gauge data and make system adjustment requests as necessary
  • Ensure the Quality Management System (QMS) is established implemented and maintained.
  • Ensure that critical gauge calibration procedures and records are established, implemented, and maintained
  • Maintain the integrity of QMS documentation for auditing
  • Support and train in Lean/Six Sigma/Belt initiatives to remove variability and reduce cost to improve quality and reduce the cost of manufacturing operations
  • Facilitate corrective actions within the manufacturing operation and validate efficiency
  • Maintain and updates FMEA, Control Plans, MOC, quality plans and controls
  • Investigate customer complaint issues and identify root cause
  • Analyze and report data on manufacturing performance
  • Communicate scorecard ratings to metal suppliers
  • Provide feedback to operators on the quality rejects, claims and recovery through communications and/or quality alert
  • Document defects and analyze root causes for scrap and major sources of waste on the line
  • Provide leadership and guidance to ensure Technical activities related to PCT improvement are supported
  • Lead efforts on analysis of throughput performance, recovery, quality, and downtime.
  • Serve as primary liaison between suppliers in reporting/handling incoming metal quality issues/complaints.
  • Develop, optimize, maintain, and supply product routing pass schedules to Production Control for existing and new products.
  • Make supplier and customer visits when necessary
  • Coordinate trials and development activities with Production Control and PCT.

 

Qualifications

  • S. in Engineering, Science or Applied Statistics
  • 3 – 5 years in an engineering / manufacturing related field or equivalent
  • Expert level in Excel and Minitab.
  • knowledge of Microsoft SQL databases
  • Python language programming
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office with strong Power Point skills
  • Statistical knowledge and experience with Statistical Software such as Mini Tab
  • Exposure to databases and queriable functions
  • Aluminum Rolling Theory and Practice
  • Understanding supplier relationships and communication
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience with PPAP, Control Plans, FMEA’s, and 8D problem solving techniques

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • S. in Metallurgical Engineering or Related Engineering field
  • Knowledge of IBA (SCADA)
  • Background in Aluminum manufacturing

Location Profile

Novelis’ Terre Haute facility is located in the center of the Wabash Valley about an hour drive from Indianapolis. The region is named for the nearby Wabash River. The facility’s 175 employees produce world-class light gauge aluminum that is used in the production of aluminum foil containers and household foil.
