Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Guthrie, KY team is seeking an Operations Leader for automotive finishing plant located in Guthrie Kentucky. The Associate Operations Leader position is responsible for coordinating all operational functions for their respective department. The primary focus is to lead the safe, efficient, and continuous improvement of operations within various process functions of the plant. Additionally, this role is responsible for managing and developing the employees within the process unit and meeting all key business objectives as set forth by the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the budgetary process, inventory usage and control, and the procurement process.
  • Ensure the behavior, equipment, and conditions inherent to the process are safe.
  • Implement 5-S with process area.
  • Work as Process Owner for pertinent Rapid Improvement Events.
  • Spend significant amount of time on shop floor with employees on all shifts.
  • Set expectations for the team, evaluate performance, provide feedback and address training needs.
  • Use and teach the use of structured methods of problem solving (A3s, 5-whys, etc.).
  • Mentor hourly production personnel through the skill assessment process
  • Ensure operational procedures are followed to product specifications, and quality metrics meet customers’ needs.
  • Perform root cause analysis with the involvement of operators on all quality issues and resolve.
  • Encourage and promote process, product, and equipment development to contribute to maintenance or improvement of profits and minimization of operating costs.
  • Troubleshoot encounters that impact production requirements from revised schedules and/or equipment failures, start-up of new equipment and development of new products and processes.
  • Help establish and implement maintenance, operational, and capital budgets along with performance objectives, development plans, goals, and programs to contribute to maximization of return on investment of the unit.
  • Administer Guthrie and Corporate practices and policies uniformly to ensure equal treatment of all employees and conformity with other departments.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of business systems.
  • Look for creative ways to minimize downtime during upset conditions.
  • Input and / or verify payroll records.
  • Verify time and attendance reports.
  • Solicit overtime when necessary to satisfy operational needs.
  • Verify operational data in business systems.
  • Summarize and communicate shift results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Be role model for leading and developing a positive, team-oriented culture.
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to work with various levels of the organization.
  • Excellent leadership skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to drive accountability.
  • Proficient in Computer Software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Project.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in a team-based management or leadership role

Location Profile

Novelis’ Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents. In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the city’s renewal efforts. The Guthrie team enjoys partnerships with Hopkinsville Community College Todd County High School Guthrie Fire Department and several local Rotary Clubs.
