Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Human Resources team located in Terre Haute, IN is seeking an HR Plant Head. The HR Plant Head aligns business objectives with employees and management in the functional groups they support and also serves as a consultant to management on Human Resource related issues. The incumbent will live the Novelis Culture Beliefs, act as an employee champion and change agent who can quickly and sustainably develop trust of managers and employees alike. The incumbent assesses and anticipates HR-related needs and communicates to business management proactively, seeking to develop coordinated solutions. This role formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver beneficial service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship to employees on a variety of employee related issues and situations.
  • Assist managers/leaders with addressing performance-related issues.
  • Work with Compensation team to evaluate jobs and determine accurate job band.
  • Work closely with Talent Acquisition COE to fill positions quickly, with the best available talent.
  • Connect with payroll and benefits on employee status changes (ex. new hires, transfers, off-cycle pay increases, salary adjustment, relocations, terminations). maintain accurate employment records in the Novelis systems of record, follow established processes.
  • Work closely with managers/supervisors to ensure policy adherence and consistency.
  • Support department managers with yearly processes such as salary planning and performance evaluations.
  • Enter purchase requisitions and receive POs in current system.
  • Build a strong culture within the plant by working with the leadership team, staff and hourly employees to ensure that employees feel valued and engaged
  • Formulate and implement the Plant HR strategy consistent with the HR strategies across the business
  • Establish and maintain self-led teams in the plant – both structurally and culturally such that all employees have an ownership attitude
  • Steward the Novelis cultural beliefs and drive business results through proactive solutions
  • Collaborate with union leadership, participate in grievance resolution and support contract negotiations
  • Ensure that all the major HR systems, policies, and programs run efficiently, effectively, and are aligned with the strategic needs of the plant
  • Provide and ensure efficient, day-to-day HR administration and operations
  • Build a talent rich and sustainable leadership group through organizational planning and employee development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eight (8) + years of progressive human resources experience with a strong focus on labor relations within a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
  • Experience managing investigations and preparing documentation to support any labor related proceedings
  • Self-motivation to get results and complete tasks independently.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and build relationships with the workforce.
  • Proven leadership, change management and decision-making skills
  • Must possess leadership skills to advise, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
  • Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment, with ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work
  • Proficiency with software applications, including Microsoft Office

Location Profile

Novelis’ Terre Haute facility is located in the center of the Wabash Valley about an hour drive from Indianapolis. The region is named for the nearby Wabash River. The facility’s 175 employees produce world-class light gauge aluminum that is used in the production of aluminum foil containers and household foil. Through the Novelis Neighbor program employees enjoy long-term partnerships with the United Way Habitat for Humanity Salvation Army and many other nonprofits providing support in Safety STEM and Recycling.
