Responsibilities & Qualifications

 

The Novelis Team in Bay Minette, Al, seeks a Rolling and Finishing Supply Chain Lead. This role reports to the Supply Chain Manager, collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams to execute and optimize the scheduling processes and material flow. You will partner with the production, planning, quality teams, and technical customer service departments to drive supply chain cost improvements and customer delivery excellence. Profoundly understanding the downstream production and planning relationship at Novelis you will be accountable for ensuring uptime through the plant and OTIF goals are met. You will drive high inventory accuracy and strategies to meet Novelis working capital targets while achieving required service levels, particularly for our customers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support world class safety culture.
  • Maintain and support a safe working environment in the plant.
  • Manages daily metal flow through the downstream process of a fully integrated aluminum rolling mill.
  • Lead initiatives to improve metal process flows, helping to eliminate bottlenecks and identify obstacles to production.
  • Work closely with plant operations to be part of the discussion regarding rolling and finishing.
  • Facilitate the transformation of manual reporting tools into a well-rounded business intelligence environment automating manual work & improving efficiency.
  • Work with the Supply Chain Manager to integrate the downstream segment into a fully integrated plant model.
  • Review capacity assumptions with operations leadership periodically to gain alignment.
  • Review S&OP plan with supply chain and operations teams to determine tactical feasibility, prepare and issue daily plans for manufacturing centers.
  • Working with downstream planners and schedulers, monitor critical operating materials, such as production consumables, metal inputs, or ingots, to always maintain adequate levels. Failure could result in plants shutting down or unsafe operating conditions.
  • Monitor and be aware of any quality issues that may arise that may impact downstream metal flows.  Work closely with plant technical team to monitor trials, spec changes or upcoming planned dt that impacts downstream.
  • Provide input and frequently interact with the plant to ensure awareness of ingot or inventory issues and within a period which allows for reaction.
  • Acquire and communicate improvement ideas from crew members, management, or self-directed.
  • Participate in improvement projects initiated by plant management that impact rolling and finishing.
  • Consistently seek out training and learning to improve performance.
  • Special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; BS or Technical Degree from an Accredited College preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience within the aluminum, metals or related industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations.
  • Excellent leadership abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills.
  • Ability to prepare and make group presentations.
  • Work with colleagues to reach consensus decisions.
  • A good understanding of Supply Chain tools and systems, ERP systems, and computer (MS Office, Windows, etc.) systems combined with an ability to analyze relevant data and make data driven decisions.
  • Personal traits should include using human relation skills, empowering, training, understanding, and developing others to attain objectives.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess excellent reading, writing, listening, and verbal skills.
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple tasks and prioritizing work.
  • Ability to represent Novelis with external parties.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekdays, and holidays if necessary.
  • Ability to respond to trouble calls 24 hours a day.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years’ experience within the aluminum industry with specific knowledge of the rolling and finishing processes.

Location Profile

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
