As an Operations Technician, you will collaborate with a skilled team to monitor and control production activities, troubleshoot equipment issues, and maintain rigorous quality standards. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to meet the growing demand for recycled aluminum while supporting the circular economy and reducing environmental impact.

Normal Work Schedule

While shift schedules may vary, Operations Technicians on shift will work rotating 12-hour shifts that alternate between day and night shifts throughout the month.  Our current shift model is a 2-2-3 rotation that allows for every other weekend off and time off throughout the week, promoting a better work-life balance.  Paid overtime can be volunteered or scheduled as needed, depending on business requirements.

 


Responsibilities:

 

  • Being a Safety Champion: Work in a safe, timely, and professional manner, recognizing and mitigating safety risks, and ensuring everyone goes home safely every day.
  • Drive Production Excellence: Monitor instrumentation and control devices and make crucial product and process decisions based on data analysis.
  • Master Material Handling: Utilize forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment to unload, move, stack, and load various materials.
  • Fuel the Circular Economy: Transport essential raw materials like aluminum coils, ingots, and scrap within our facility, and expertly load/unload trucks and railcars carrying aluminum products and production consumables.
  • Ensure Quality & Efficiency: Prepare and package finished aluminum products for shipment, maintain meticulous inventory records, and inspect products for defects, reporting any issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain Peak Performance: Conduct assigned preventative maintenance tasks and monitor/maintain equipment and tools to ensure optimal working condition.
  • Innovate & Improve: Actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement and share your fresh ideas.
    Collaborate & Grow: Work alongside a skilled team, learn and grow in a supportive environment, and even mentor other Operators and material handlers.
  • Communicating with Impact: Use email effectively to communicate across departments and locations, and engage in open, honest, and respectful feedback.

Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • An associate's degree in a technical field is preferred.
  • A minimum of four years of work history/experience.
  • A proven foundation and substantial value for safety.
  • A desire to work in and actively participate in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of software applications and email.
  • Preferred: Experience operating mobile equipment, including forklifts, skid steers, and end loaders.
  • Ability to work overtime as required for business demands

 

 

Functional Capacity Requirements:

 

  • Working in heat >80° and cold < 60°
  • Lifting to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling, sometimes in close quarters.
  • Flexibility to work 12-hour shifts in a 24/7 environment.
  • Must meet minimum overhead crane/mobile equipment operation requirements, including annual physical and vision exams.
  • All candidates must complete the company’s pre-employment process, which includes but is not limited to:
    • A post-offer physical examination
    • Pulmonary function testing (as applicable to job duties and required PPE)
    • Background screening
    • Drug screening
    • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of these requirements

Location Profile

Novelis’ Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents. In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the city’s renewal efforts. The Guthrie team enjoys partnerships with Hopkinsville Community College Todd County High School Guthrie Fire Department and several local Rotary Clubs.
