Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Ashville team is seeking an Associate Operations Leader. This role is accountable for completing the plans for their area of responsibility. They will drive strategies to ensure Novelis working capital targets are met while achieving required service levels. This role monitors and keeps production running with the task of improving productivity and quality and provides leadership for an aluminum coating and slitting manufacturing organization. They will lead and emphasize to crews the importance of adherence to control plans at each specific machine center. Identify and communicate control plan issues in need of review. Engage the team to drive a continuous improvement culture by eliminating waste and variability in manufacturing processes. Educate crew members as to the benefits of process control to identify potential problems proactively. Commend crew members for calling into question product that doesn’t meet Novelis’ quality standards. Possess a validated understanding of the current CBA and optimally abide by it.

Responsibilities

 

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Leverage the Novelis Safety System and Safety Principles to create a zero-injury culture.
  • Support the implementation of processes that reveal safety hazards and develops sustainable corrective actions.
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are being driven by the team to be aligned with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Make certain that a safe job execution has priority over a quick job execution.
  • Confirm the team is retrained on relevant safety procedures.

 

Operations

  • Drive the achievement of the daily production goals for throughput, quality, target date and cost.
  • Conduct capacity planning and resource allocation for short- and medium-term production demands.
  • Ensure the availability of materials needed to complete production requirements.
  • Participate in and conducts Safety and Production Meetings.
  • Responsible for quality requirements, sample taking, documentation and reports for their team.
  • Effectively communicate deviations from the standard process to the relevant people/functions.
  • Ensure correct material is used for production.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Engage with the team to develop and implement standard work.
  • Participate in productivity and quality improvement projects.
  • Support developing solutions for cost reduction and yield improvement.

 

Management and Leadership

  • Inspire employees to perform at high levels.
  • Set and communicate clear performance standards and hold direct reports accountable for results.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and maintain performance metrics to monitor employee results.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback and development to increase employee performance and production.
  • Responsible for execution of disciplinary actions, in conjunction with HR.
  • Communicate effectively with direct reports and resolves conflicts within and between individual team members.
  • Responsible for timekeeping activities.

 

Knowledge

  • Technically competent and capable of backfilling team members.
  • Understands the manufacturing process and has technical knowledge to ensure product quality and flow.
  • Understands how activities impact cash conversion, EBITDA and other key financial metrics.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce documents such as safety policies and procedures, HR policies, standard work documents, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, charts etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Highly motivated and goal oriented.
  • Strong decision making / sense of urgency and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Effectively demonstrate the Novelis Culture and Vision 3x30.
  • Ability to drive accountability
  • Proficient in Computer Software – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Ability to work evenings, weekdays, and holidays.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor Degree or Technical Degree from an Accredited College
  • 7+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Experience with Lean and Continuous Improvement.
  • 5+ years related work experience with leadership responsibility

Founded in 1971 Ashville is a finishing facility with coating capabilities. Employing around 190 people the facility primarily serves the Building & Construction and Commercial Transportation markets.
