Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Supply Chain Leader is responsible for leading, planning, and handling all aspects of the plant’s metal supply (incoming and outgoing) including tactical and long-term strategic planning. They manage and direct the work of the Plant Supply Chain team (3-6 direct reports). The position owns metal planning management, implementing these plans in support of world class manufacturing practices with emphasis on safety, quality, production, teamwork, and cost. The position is responsible for ensuring demand and production plans are in alignment, optimizing processes and material flow for production specific to the plant supply network, and business partnering with each manufacturing unit to implement improvement plans related to inventory, cycle time, and overall plant key performance indicators. The incumbent will collaborate with the commercial and manufacturing organizations to develop a balanced demand and capacity plan as well as operating direction and coordination for material flow to other Novelis Plants and/or External Processors. In addition, they will work daily with the Plant Manager, Manufacturing Unit Managers, S&OP team and Operations Planning personnel to ensure a consistent and balanced view of Plant demand and capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding demand and capacity planning of metal inputs, flow, and inventory along with providing business intelligence on Flow losses.
  • Reporting and analyzing all aspects of metal inputs, flow, and inventory positions. Including developing methods to reduce or eliminate aged inventory along with any needed cycle counts.
  • Handling annual physical inventory with the intent of little to no needed adjustments (write on / write offs).
  • Promoting innovation and passion for moving the business forward within their team
  • Developing themselves and their teams through continuous improvement exercises
  • Develop and lead plant supply chain team to deliver the plant key performance metrics including production, shipments (OTIF), and inventory (Cash flow)
  • Lead direct reports in making process route changes in response to planned or unplanned outages. Submit requests for creation of new routes as directed. Implement the necessary transactions to change routes of material in process.
  • Ensure demand is in appropriate planning system (i.e. SAP PGS) after a planning run and participate in testing of major and minor planning system (i.e. SAP) changes
  • Check daily status of materials in the planning system, anticipate delivery problems & proactively communicate with Account Management Specialist (AMS)
  • Provide weekly estimates of on time and full delivery (OTIF), anticipate delivery misses & proactively communicate to Planner/Schedulers and Tolling Planners to prioritize and expedite orders
  • Communicate updated projected delivery dates to Account Management Specialists (AMS)
  • Provide daily plant updates to Senior Manager, Supply Chain Operations and/or Director, Supply Chain Operations, Oswego Network.
  • Take efforts to identify and dispose of obsolete inventory and seek opportunities to reapply to new orders. When found, implement within the appropriate planning systems (i.e. SAP/MES) processes to reapply
  • Following standard processes and policies, scrap material for which no uses can be found and expedite physical return
  • Proactively detect and remedy discrepancies between planning system (i.e. SAP) and physical inventory. Remedy the discrepancies and submit the appropriate tickets to IT so that the event is logged. Proactively pursue with technical organizations the resolution of quality holds so that material does not become obsolete.
  • Provide direct reports with system transaction training, help and troubleshooting as needed
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve Supply Chain processes. Detail the case for the changes and advance within the Supply Chain organization.
  • Translating Supply Chain and metal flow (no space, no metal, transition losses) critical metrics into actionable tasks
  • Keep logs of exceptions to allow Pareto of reasons for delivery misses and stagnant inventory
  • Work with Supply Chain team to detect and fix systemic reasons for delivery misses and stagnant inventory
  • Collaborating with S&OP and with plant process/quality engineers to assure accuracy of master data parameters (e.g., equipment run rates, yields, etc.) for each product specifications to drive the transformation to continue refining the accuracy of the S&OP in the short and medium term

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or similar field
  • 5 years of supply chain related experience in manufacturing company preferred
  • Leadership skills to direct, lead and develop team members to accomplish personal, plant, and corporate objectives
  • Leadership ability to resolved issues, involve others in problem solving/decision making activities, and create a culture aligned with Novelis cultural beliefs
  • Excellent analytical skills: ability to extract data and draw conclusions and recommendations
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization
  • Great teammate with strong customer service skills
  • Pro-active and flexible, able to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to handle multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to get results and engagement among their team
  • ERP Experience, SAP an asset
  • Must be willing and able to travel as needed
