Responsibilities & Qualifications

Position Overview:

The Novelis Team in Guthrie, KY, seeks an Associate Operations Leader. This role reports to the Operations Leader, collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams to optimize processes and material flow. You will partner with the recycling, procurement, logistics, quality teams, and technical customer service departments to drive supply chain cost improvements and excellence. You will be accountable for profoundly understanding the interdependence between Novelis and external metal processors for optimum cost and working capital balancing. You will drive high inventory accuracy and strategies to meet Novelis working capital targets while achieving required service levels, particularly for our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a world class safety culture.
  • Ensure all employees are adequately trained and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and support a safe working environment in the plant.
  • Consistently monitor conditions and crew practices throughout the course of the shift to identify and quickly resolve unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviors.
  • Promote Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policy, implement the EHS management system, and encourage continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain active observer status by performing one observation per month on average.
  • Own one of the three operating areas of the Recycle Center (cold metal, hot metal or casting).
  • Support your area operating crew in a 24/7 nature.
  • Priority-setting and crew-directing activities to facility daily progress toward monthly production targets.
  • Schedule crews, including overtime (considering equalization), vacations, and PTO, as well as monitor and address absenteeism.
  • Resolve machine center/line problems that result in downtime and product quality deficiencies, including coordinating outside resources as needed.
  • Monitor critical operating materials, such as production consumables, to maintain adequate levels at all times. Failure could result in plants shutting down or unsafe operating conditions.
  • Support, plan, and facilitate the movement of scrap or molten aluminum through your area.
  • Provide input and frequently interact with Maintenance personnel regarding machine center reliability, repairs, and coordination of weekly and scheduled PM schedules.
  • Acquire and communicate improvement ideas from crew members, management, or self-directed.
  • Participate in improvement projects.
  • Special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; BS or Technical Degree from an Accredited College preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a supervisor.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations.
  • Excellent leadership abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills.
  • Ability to prepare and make group presentations.
  • Work with colleagues to reach consensus decisions.
  • A good understanding of manufacturing systems and computer (MS Office, Windows, etc.) systems.
  • Personal traits should include using human relation skills, empowering, training, understanding, and developing others to attain the objectives.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess excellent reading, writing, listening, and verbal skills.
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple tasks and prioritizing work.
  • Ability to represent Novelis with external parties.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekdays, and holidays if necessary.
  • Ability to respond to trouble calls 24 hours a day.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the molten aluminum industry.

Location Profile

Novelis’ Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents. In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the city’s renewal efforts. The Guthrie team enjoys partnerships with Hopkinsville Community College Todd County High School Guthrie Fire Department and several local Rotary Clubs.
