Position Overview

The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking Maintenance Planners to work in the Bay Minette facility. This facility will have cast house, rolling, and finishing areas as the area’s fully integrated aluminum mill.

 

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating and scheduling maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient execution that minimally disrupts operations. The incumbent plans and schedules maintenance jobs for electricians, mechanics, and contractors; continuously assessing planning effectiveness to seek opportunities for improvement. This role will report to the Maintenance Supervisor of the assigned manufacturing unit or service area.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and revise job plans to provide good safe working practices, through compliance with all regulatory requirements and Novelis programs, procedures, and regulations.
  • Lead the effort to identify inaccurate or non-existent maintenance-related safety protocols (LOTO, etc) through the planning process; work with manufacturing units, technicians and engineers to correct identified deficiencies.
  • Review work instructions to maintain safe working and housekeeping procedures to prevent injuries to employees or damage to equipment.
  • Coordinate the Planned Inspection program to encourage the culture of preventive maintenance across the organization
  • Plan and develop schedules for major and minor shutdowns and/or desired repairs on unit equipment; coordinate needed parts or materials, special tools, and guarantee effectiveness of safety paperwork; participate in determining resource distribution for specific work assignments.
  • Submit monthly project status reports, keep equipment history files up to date, submit final reports on projects, including items of historical value, final costs' analysis, schedules, etc.
  • Maintain the work request system by reviewing received work requests, verifying the request for accuracy and planning personnel and supplies necessary to complete the work.
  • Create necessary requisitions for labor, parts, rental equipment and associate requisitions with work orders and verify labor and material costs.
  • Participate in investigating downtime reports for repetitive and preventable failures along with engineering staff.
  • Understand the existing processes, practices and technologies in use and locate inefficiencies and blind spots in your area of accountability and generate ideas to address them.
  • Interact with all partners likely to be impacted by your or your team’s idea to get an understanding of the feasibility, viability and desirability of the suggested changes.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in maintenance planning or as on-shift craft person
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Digital literacy skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn new software programs quickly

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 Year Degree in a related field as maintenance personnel, preferably as planner.
  • SAP experience, Planned Maintenance (PM) module.
  • Prometheus software experience that enhances user interface between SAP and shop floor
  • Certification and/or experience in working as an Electrician, Mechanic, or Automation Technician

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking and sitting
  • Occasional below waist level work, climbing, balancing, carrying, reaching over 15” away from the body, reaching above shoulder, and use of forceful motion
  • Occasional push/pull, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability and willingness to work at heights

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
