Position Overview
The Bay Minette Novelis team is seeking a Supply Chain Manager which will lead and direct the design and implementation of the Supply Chain processes for a successful launch and operation of the major expansion project at Bay Minette with an initial focus on designing and defining the optimal product flow within Bay Minette, developing and documenting the supply chain processes and the respective IT systems as well as the creation of primarily rail-based transportation network. The role owner will be responsible for capacity, material requirement and inventory planning during the ramp up, commissioning and qualification phase. They will also lead the hiring of the Supply Chain team at the facility. During this phase, the role owner will be reporting to the VP Supply Chain NNA with a dotted line to the Sr Manager SC Operations LOG-BM Network, and also be a part of the plant leadership team. As the plant transitions to full operations, the role owner will then be the Supply Chain Manager for the plant, responsible for all Supply Chain activities at the plant. They will then report to the Senior Manager, SC Operations Log-Bay Minette Network but continue to be a member of the plant management team with a dotted line to the plant manager.
Responsibilities
In this role, the owner is responsible for defining the Supply Chain architecture. This includes in particular:
- Owning the work on modelling efficient product flow through the new facility considering regional requirements.
- Providing direction to and aligning with the project stakeholders (Operations, Recycling, Procurement, Finance, and senior management) on product mix in the casting centers and rolling operations of Bay Minette.
- Leading the implementation of the transportation network for the plant with strong emphasis on sustainability and cost optimization.
- Establishing the relationships with logistics providers in rail, truck, and intermodal.
- Developing the processes for all inbound and outbound transportation requirements using rail and truck.
- Collaborating closely with the wider project team ensuring clarity and accuracy of optimal sales, production, input, and inventory plans.
- Defining and documenting the supply chain processes, leveraging advanced technologies at shop floor and manufacturing systems, and best practices from other plants.
- Leading the design and implementation of supply chain IT applications, namely SAP, Quintiq Schedulers, transportation management systems (Blue Yonder, FourKites) and Yard Management Systems.
- Representing Supply Chain in all project related matters, leading change on the operational side of the business and ensuring on time and in budget delivery of the project.
- Collaborating cross-departmentally for machine center commissioning, ensuring inventory availability and trial documentation/governance.
- Lead the S&OP process/capacity assumptions for near-term-planning and strategic planning.
Minimum Qualifications
- Always puts safety first! Demonstrated promotion of highest safety standards in supply chain and beyond.
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or similar subject area with exposure to supply chain management through experience and/or course work.
- Master's degree in relevant field preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills, able to transform data into business impact and decision.
- 10+ years related experience in multinational manufacturing company, similar industry is preferred.
- Solid experience in building and leading successful teams through empowerment, accountability, and ownership, within direct reporting lines and in a matrix structure.
- Desire to take initiative and lead change in the organization through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship.
- Excellent understanding of the complexity of an inter-connected manufacturing network, its constraints and business environment.
- Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of planning optimization models and tools required, preferably Quintiq and SAP tools.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization.
- Proven conflict management skills and ability to build and maintain a culture of accountability, leveraging diversity and inclusion as part of the tool set.
