Position Overview

The Novelis North America EHS team is looking for an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to be located at our new facility in Bay Minette, Alabama. This role will be a key member of the new facility as well as plant operations.

 

The EHS Manager develops and assists in the implementation and coordination of policies, procedures and programs to protect and promote the highest standards of EHS within Novelis North America (NNA) operations and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and Novelis EHS requirements.

 

The position requires the incumbent to maintain close working relationships with NNA Senior Leadership, Global EHS, and Plant Management, and to work strategically outside of EHS to collaborate with other functions such as: Quality, Reliability, Engineering, Communications, Procurement, and Legal.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Site Leadership and staff to ensure uniform application of EHS related policies and practices and communicate incidents or policy changes.
  • Lead the change management for EHS from Construction Phase to Operations phase once the plant is operational.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS Management System, regulatory, and Novelis requirements by participating in compliance and management system audits.
  • Implement NNA EHS strategy and other strategic objectives.
  • Promote an improved EHS culture and acquiring cooperation and involvement from Leaders and employees who are concerned with challenging priorities. (Dealing with resistance - change and champion employee involvement).
  • Assess, define, and communicate regulatory threats, impacts and business opportunities.
  • Develop EHS training programs and facilitate training programs.
  • Facilitate routine calls and face-to-face meetings for the site’s subject matter experts.

 

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in EHS related position in an industrial/construction setting, environmental safety experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and skill in development, implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs/activities and procedures
  • Experience with EHS Management Systems and EHS auditing
  • Expert resource about OSHA regulations, general industry and construction

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Science/related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional CSP certification preferred.

 

Skills Needed to Excel in Position Include:

  • Interpersonal skills to build a culture of safety, influence others and be a subject matter expert to address safety questions and/or concerns throughout the plant.
  • High degree of proficiency in computer software applications with a detailed approach to policy & procedure documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to work well within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to address large groups for presentations and training.
  • Ability to multi-task, quickly adapt to change, and work with minimal direction.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and apply the content to operations.
  • Leader in change management and building a culture of safety through influence and employee engagement.

Location Profile

Novelis’ newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing and become fully operational in 2025. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
