Position Overview

The Novelis Warren, OH team is seeking a Quality Technician II. This is a technical position that involves performing a variety of tests and analyzing the associated data on coils and processes. There is one lab technician per shift at the Warren plant, each of which is a member of a crew of employees that rotates shifts and involves working evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime coverage is mandatory and as necessary. Extensive interaction with hourly and salaried employees is a vital function of this position.

Responsibilities

• Maintain electronic and paper logs and files for analysis. Record, retain, and file samples and paperwork.
• Identify and differentiate between coated and bare defects
• Test and analyze wet and dried coatings along with wet chemistry at the Coating Line. Based on analysis make decisions to correct or fix any issues that occur.
• Review Surface Inspection System (SIS) for each coil and disposition coil based on instructions.
• Maintain and update procedures as needed. Follow control plan procedures including S.P.C. requirements which use Infinity QS.
• Maintain all Lab equipment and supplies.
• Solve problems using data-driven techniques coupled with consensus of Plant Management in corrective actions.
• Support the Warren Plant’s EHS initiatives through personal use of PPE
• Special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

• 3 years of experience in lab environment, preferably in aluminum or similar industry; Experience in coatings.
• Good computer and mathematical skills
• Ability to work with little supervision
• Ability to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism with honesty and integrity
• Quality-ordered thinking, problem solving skills and leadership abilities are preferred
• Basic understanding of statistical tools and when to use those tools to analyze and solve problems
• Possess knowledge of the process and equipment used in can and lid making is beneficial
• Practical, conceptual and operating knowledge of manufacturing processes and the equipment used in the production of rolled and coated products is important to this position

Novelis’ Warren facility is located in northeast Ohio— approximately an hour drive from Cleveland and an hour and a half from Pittsburgh. The facility built in 1965 applies coating to rolled aluminum beverage can sheet. The sheet is used to make aluminum beverage can ends (lids) for global soft drink beer and sparkling water brands. Warren showcases several high-end cultural venues including the Warren Community Amphitheater and Packard Music Hall.
