Responsibilities & Qualifications

 

The Novelis Kennesaw team is seeking a R&D Process Co-Op. The person in this role will report to a Senior Scientist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting literature review and coordinating lab-scale trials to develop an understanding of advanced process technologies for Al sheet products. This position will contribute to improve productivity and product performance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough literature review on advanced process technologies for Al sheet products
  • Work with experienced scientists and engineers to develop advanced process technologies for Al sheet products
  • Coordinate material preparation and lab trials to ensure on-time in-full delivery of results
  • Acquire, analyze, and interpret data, and disseminate results with Novelis and produce a final report to Co-op’s supervisor
  • Manage and safeguard all data sets and transfer to Co-op’s supervisor for future study
  • Observe all environmental, health and safety regulations, and where applicable contribute to their improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with currently enrolling in undergraduate 3rd or 4th year
  • Lab work experience (experiment design and safe chemical handling)
  • Basic knowledge of material processing and metallurgy
  • Lab safety awareness
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be available for at least 6 months starting in May 2025

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Materials science PhD candidate currently enrolled in program
  • Advantageous to have hands-on experience in materials processing, heat treatment, microstructure characterization, and property evaluation
  • Experience in optical and electron microscopy, and image analysis considered an asset
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills
