Responsibilities & Qualifications

Position Overview:

The Novelis Kennesaw team is seeking a Materials Informatics Co-Op. The person in this role will report to the Materials Informatics Engineer. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cataloging custom software and applications across Novelis R&D, evaluating necessary steps to make applications widely usable, and assisting with further development and deployment of these applications. This position will help preserve and distribute scientific and engineering software and analytics tools within Novelis R&D to aid the research and development of aluminum alloys.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Catalog custom software developed within Novelis Research and Development ecosystem.
  • Evaluate potential userbase of each application.
  • Evaluate data, software, and UI readiness of each application for cloud deployment.
  • Aid development efforts to deploy scientific and engineering software to cloud platform.
  • Develop model generators integrating material microstructure with product/process information.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Student pursuing B.S., M.S., or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years into program if in B.S.
  • 2+ Years of experience with Python
  • Must be available from May 2025 until December 2025

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data visualization experience
  • Machine learning and data science experience
  • JavaScript experience
  • Experience with leadership and interpersonal roles.
  • Experience with mechanical engineering software (e.g. FEM such as Abaqus/LS Dyna/AutoForm, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Experience with computational materials science software.
  • Experience or knowledge of metals industry or sheet metal applications.
