Responsibilities & Qualifications

Position Overview:

The Mechanical Characterization team, located in Kennesaw, GA, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Technologist. The incumbent will routinely set up and validate equipment, develop knowledge related to troubleshooting, maintenance, and advanced application/operation of equipment and processes. Additionally, this role will be responsible for quality testing and results output with limited supervision, balancing multiple priorities across multiple projects or service group requests.

This candidate will report to the Mechanical Characterization Lab Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct niche laboratory testing and output data for projects; including Tensile, Hardness, 3 pt bend, fatigue, Gleeble, etc.
  • Collaborate with various cluster groups to improve upon testing capabilities
  • Work closely with Lab Lead and Lab Responsible to create test protocols, propose improvements, and give guidance based on technical expertise
  • Identify improvements or modifications to laboratory equipment and processes to enhance effectiveness, accuracy, and/or efficiency.
  • Manage workflow on equipment to complete test matrices as laid out by Lab Team Lead
  • Meets assigned project commitments, demonstrating an understanding of project timelines and deliverables
  • Clearly communicates technical information and results effectively to internal customers
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with work group and other internal functional areas.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner and in compliance with Novelis safety standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Entry to this level typically requires 0-3 years of relevant experience and a BS in a relevant field, technical program certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Background in some form of lab testing (Mechanical, Forming, etc.)
  • Ability to work with limited supervision from supervisor, project leader or senior technical staff
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Possess advanced digital literacy to collect, store and analyze data.
  • Excel
  • Python
  • Experience in CNC Milling simple parts/geometries
  • Background in materials testing either from a professional or academia setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Material Science and Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with ISO 17025
  • Background with CAD software ie. Fusion 360, Inventor , Catia, Vault , etc.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of testing standards including: ASTM, ISO, DIN, etc.
  • Experience in 2D and 3D DIC testing
  • Project management experience is highly preferred.
