Position Overview

The Health, Safety and Environment team, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a Regional Environmental Manger! The incumbent will report to the Director Regional Environment, Health, and Safety. The role will be responsible for implementation and coordination of policies, programs, and procedures designed to protect and promote the highest standards of Environment within the region, and to ensure compliance with all applicable Environmental legal, corporate, and other requirements. In addition to being a strategic partner with the sites, the role sets strategic direction for the region with respect to compliance and sustainability. This role is also responsible for leading all aspects of the regional compliance and management system audit process!

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Technical lead for environmental compliance matters across the region, including interpretation of applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Support plants with inspections and formal responses to governmental agencies in concert with NNA Legal.
  • Evaluate the regulatory landscape and establish strategic direction for sites based on risk, compliance trends, anticipated regulatory changes, and governmental agency priorities.
  • Identify training needs based on regional compliance trends.
  • Provide technical support for corrective actions in response to violations and deviations of permit conditions across all environmental media (air, storm water, wastewater, waste, spill prevention, SARA/EPCRA, etc.).
  • Support expansions and associated permitting efforts in coordination with the Capital Projects EHS team, including takeover points and implementation.
  • Lead regional compliance efforts, including Title V, MACT, RCRA, NPDES, Industrial User Programs, Spill Prevention, and TSCA CDR.
  • Support the sites with maintaining accreditation with standards such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI).
  • Establish an internal audit program to meet the requirements of the applicable standards, including development of an auditor pool, auditor training, development of audit materials, and the coordination of audits.
  • Liaison with third party auditors for scheduling, resolution of major nonconformances and other audit-related matters
  • Establishment of fundamental requirements for sites that do not certify to ISO standards, including compliance obligations, risk assessment, recordkeeping, corrective action, and document control.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or a related scientific subject area
  • Minimum of  7 - 10 years’ experience in EHS or related field
  • Requires a detailed, in depth knowledge of federal environmental laws and regulations and implementation of programs to align with these requirements
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Must possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with ability to prioritise multiple tasks and prioritize workload
  • Proficiency at software applications, including Microsoft Office, and quick learning of new technology
  • Subject matter authority in Title V, RCRA, and CWA
  • Ability to travel up to 50 - 60%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or a related scientific subject area
  • Manufacturing industry experience is highly preferred
  • 5 years’ experience in the aluminum industry
  • Knowledge of aluminum manufacturing process
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
