Position Overview

Novelis Greensboro has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Technician! The primary focus of this position is maintenance, service and repair of facilities and equipment. Successful Electrical Technicians are fast learners and self-motivated, independent workers. They have the ability to work under pressure and the willingness to work in varying conditions. Electrical Technicians receive training in troubleshooting, technical procedures, and safety. They help create, maintain, and repair the electronic components and equipment used in any machinery that involves electricity. They work on site to keep machinery and specialty equipment running correctly.

 

Responsibilities

· Use specialized measuring and diagnostic devices to evaluate equipment.

· Inspect for problems

· Work with wires using hand tools while handling small components

· Repair and replace defective components in motors, generators, controllers, storage batteries, switchboards, conductors, switches and varied electrical fixtures.

· Install, maintain and repair electrical, electromechanical, and electronic parts of machinery and equipment.

· Perform defensive repair and preservation of field, plant and shop for electronic and electrical systems, equipment, and devices.

· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.

· Complete work orders or instructions utilizing blueprints, sketches, and drawings.

• Diagnose, analyze, troubleshoot, remove, replace, repair, and perform electrical preventive maintenance, repair, and adjustment of equipment.

• Offer technical and electrical suggestions to improve efficiency, reliability, and extended life of equipment.
• Continuously work with other departments to evaluate and improve technical solutions and strategies.
• Document and communicate electrical and repair actions as well as irregularities.
• Ensure compliance with safety, cleanliness, and established regulations.
• Comply with all safety procedures such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry permit procedure, etc. and utilize all personal protective and other safety equipment such as fall protection devices. Must replace all safety guards and restore housekeeping following repairs.
• Flexibility in shift schedule/coverage
• Use Maintenance software to complete maintenance work, plan and research projects and tasks, and locate inventory.
• Coordinate functions with operations to reduce unplanned downtime.
• Perform LOTO.
• Operate mobile equipment including forklift, manlift, crane, and other large pieces of equipment and machinery.

 

Qualifications

· Minimum of two to five years of electrical experience.

Experience with:

· Power Distribution

· Industrial motor control (A/C & D/C Controls)

· Process control and instrumentation

· Combustion control systems

· Computer skills / computer operated control systems

· Ladder logic

• Experience working with large pieces of mobile equipment and machinery.

• Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
• Demonstrated electrical aptitude.

• Knowledge and hands on experience in hydraulics.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
• Ability to organize and prioritize responsibility; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail.
• Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship.
• Must possess leadership skills to direct, lead, and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives.
• Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office and SAP preferred.
• Must be a team-player and self-starter.
• Willingness to train and improve knowledge and skills.

 


This is a list of physical requirements, related to a person’s ability to handle certain physical, mental, emotional demands:

• Work around molten metal
• Climb on/off fork truck several times a day
• Climb stairs occasionally
• Lift up to 50 lbs
• Be able to work at temperatures <50 degrees in the winter to >100 degrees in the summer
Experience with furnaces/molten metal and/or casting operations will be considered an advantage.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Manufacturing experience preferred.

Experience working in the metals or industrial industry preferred.
