Position Overview

This position is intended to support the CI effort in further development and execution of the lean transformation for the Davenport, Iowa facility. The CI Specialist will assist in the identification of CI projects with the greatest value and coordinate Continuous Improvement training.  Coordination across all projects is critical, including regular review meetings and reports to management.

World Class Manufacturing (WCM) is a project team-based management system that encompasses Total Quality, TPM and Lean/6 Sigma practices in a systemic approach to problem solving. WCM focuses on loss identification, loss reduction, loss sustainability and loss prevention. It is based on the involvement and empowerment of operational teams starting from operators at shop floor, allowing them to be fully accountable for delivering results 24/7.

WCM was selected as the only Novelis manufacturing management system and is one of the enablers of its business strategy.  WCM can be expanded in further phases to support other business functions from Supply Chain to HR.

This position supports the WCM implementation and its sustainability, working closely with the CI Leader and the Plant Management.

 Responsibilities

• Lead or co-lead various Improvement Events – Rapid Improvement Events, Value Stream Analysis, 6s, Standard Work, Flow Cells and DMAIC projects resulting in measurable business improvements.
• Partner with Process Owners, Project Sponsors, and other CI resources to drive results.
• Coach and support Yellow Belts and line management in continuous improvement activities
• Assist in identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
• Define the scope and financial justification of improvement opportunities.
• Become an expert in the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools; ensure that the tools are used appropriately by team members.
• Report CI Events status and results

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in continuous improvement
• High degree of understanding of WCM management system
• Six Sigma or Lean black belt training/certification or Lean certification required, includes both education and the hands-on ability to lead teams and implement improvements.
• Proven ability to successfully implement improvement within an established time frame, then sustain improvements.
• High energy, data driven, and results oriented.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills and organization skills, must be comfortable teaching and presenting to large groups at all levels of the organization from shop floor to senior leadership

 Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field of study
