Position Overview

The Information Technology team, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a Simulation Engineer! This role will be responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of simulation, optimization, and data science solutions to address challenges within Novelis!

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and deliver solutions to perform system of systems discrete event simulations for significantly intricate operational processes that have a long-term impact on a Novelis product, business, or function using AnyLogic.
  • Follow and contribute to standards and standard methodologies for re-usable, integrated, and automated simulation models that provide ongoing value.
  • Design and creation of re-usable simulation, optimization, and data science libraries.
  • Identify and address intrinsically hard process flow simulation problems including problems that are highly sophisticated, ambiguous, undefined, with less existing structure, or having significant business risk or potential for significant impact.
  • Use sophisticated statistical /simulation tools and develop code using Java or Python for data analysis, simulation, and developing modeling algorithms.
  • Communicate results of model to technical and non-technical resources through various means, including design and development of intuitive UIs.
  • Write effective white papers and artifacts while detailing your approach, simulation outcomes, recommendations, and arguments.
  • Translate and interpret findings from models into operational activities for broader organization.
  • Promote data driven decision making and advanced analytics techniques within Novelis!

Minimum qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience and 0.5 - 1 year of quantitative field experience (through internship/co-op or similar opportunities).
  • Experience in defining standards, standard methodologies, and crafting re-usable libraries.
  • Experience/practice with Simulation software, e.g., AnyLogic (preferred), Arena, FlexSim, Simio, Gama, Simul8, MATLAB.
  • Experience in both discrete event and agent-based simulation methods along with ability to run optimizations.
  • Proficient in Java, Python, or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Proven foundation on data engineering and database management systems, (eg. SQL).
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and work on a team to tackle internal problems.
  • Good understanding of statistical analysis techniques and ability to think in a probabilistic way.

Preferred qualifications

  • PhD degree or equivalent experience in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related subject area.
  • Experience with analysis tools such as Excel, PowerBI, or Minitab.
  • Experience with optimization (LP, IP, MIP, ADP) and open source or commercial solvers (OR-tools, Gurobi, CPLEX etc.)
  • Experience in metals manufacturing, particularly in the areas of process, quality reliability, and supply chain.
  • Expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, data visualization, and familiarity with big data technologies and cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Extensive knowledge of data science methodologies, including feature engineering, model evaluation, and deployment.
