Position Overview

Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer! The candidate will have the opportunity to work with molten aluminum alloys, cast ingot as well as the rolling of aluminum using the hot and cold milling process.  This candidate must have excellent communication skills as well as being able to work effectively with all levels of the organization. 

The major challenge of this position is determination and elimination of the causes of quality defects, effective resolution of customer complaints, and the facilitation and completion of product and process developments and improvement projects through the cooperation of other employees.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the business management system maintenance and update, including interfaces with external organizations and internal customers, primarily NOVI and ATL.
  • Responsible for regulatory requirements and standards certifications as required by the business unit.
  • Plans and leads internal audit function and is responsible for planning and organization readiness for the annual registrar (SAI) and corporate audits. In addition, customer audits, surveys, and assessments as needed.
  • Responsible for document control and repository key user (EtQ).
  • Supports Process and Process Leader on management reviews, major quality initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Incumbent completes assessments to resolve process deviations that decrease quality, utilization, and throughput.
  • Development of process control strategy to ensure long-term product and process capability.
  • Development and implementation of projects ranging in scope from near-immediate needs to long-term strategic initiatives to optimize the business management system.
  • Determining and eliminating the causes of quality defects, championing problem-solving methodologies with a preference for 8D's, A3, and DMAIC.
  • Use WCM methodologies to resolve customer complaints and troubleshoot internal quality concerns. (Often involving technical assistance and advice to the customer.)
  • Manage quality lab equipment, perform the product inspections and quality tests if necessary.
  • Assist and support the trainings of quality lab technicians.
  • Measure, analyze and improve KPI’s of Oswego's Recycle Center. Initiate process improvements, develop the conceptual and detail design, and lead the improvement projects through to successful implementation.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
  • Personal traits should include the ability to utilize human relation skills to motivate, train, understand, and develop others to attain the objectives
  • Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs quickly
  • Must also possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science/Metallurgy
  • Experience in relevant aluminum metallurgical assignments of increasing complexity and magnitude.

This role’s salary starts from $70,000 per year. Individual pay will vary based on qualifications, experience, and performance. In addition to base salary, this position includes participation in a short-term incentive plan (Annual Incentive Plan - AIP or Plant Performance incentive - PPI).
