Position Overview

The Novelis Casting plant located in Davenport, IA has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Manager. This position collaborates with the Engineering & Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities include:

  • Is a role model for safety; demonstrates behaviors that align with the Novelis safety principles and holds the team accountable for results.
  • Ensure the equipment and facility operate safely by following Novelis HSE standards and policies, all state and federal laws, and company policies and procedures.
  • Implements processes that reveal safety hazards. Investigates accidents and near misses and develops balanced corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement an overall maintenance strategy to deliver operational stability and improve plant efficiency.
  • Leads and coordinates break-down, corrective, renovated, and preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and optimize utilization.
  • Planning, scheduling, and implementing projects according to deadlines and within budget. This includes accruing resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants to deliver projects according to plan.
  • Re-assess and re-direct maintenance efforts and focus on improved reliability, quality, and reducing operating costs.
  • Lead the efforts of root cause failure analysis with recommended solutions.
  • Implement the vital tools and systems to efficiently lead preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, spare parts' inventory, and general work orders at the facility.
  • Set and communicate clear performance standards and hold direct reports accountable for results.
  • Continuously improve the efficient use of financial and human resources in the performance of duties.
  • Provide a climate of trust and employee engagement.
  • Develop the capabilities of all maintenance employees through effective training, performance evaluations, counseling, and provide for opportunities to improve potential.
  • Engages team to drive a continuous improvement culture by applying the Novelis Operating System.
  • Works in conjunction with Human Resources to ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement for seniority, disciplinary process, overtime scheduling, and grievance handling.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent required; 7 to 10 years minimum heavy manufacturing experience. Experience in the aluminum industry strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical and electrical industrial maintenance.
  • Strong working knowledge in purchasing, PLC systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and overall machine design.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning and organizing, time management, and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques is crucial.
  • Ability to work with a long-term strategy along with leading short term objectives.
  • Ability to instill a sense of purpose and encourage actions in others.
  • Ability to assist team members through clear task assignment, feedback, and development planning.
  • Ability to bring together the appropriate people and information to make timely, effective decisions.
  • Ability to tackle problems while making good decisions and a realistic understanding of the issues involved.
  • Ability to achieve results, lead multiple tasks and objectives in parallel and own the technical and social issues associated with change.
