Position Overview

The Supply Chain & Logistics team, located in Uhrichsville, Ohio, is seeking a Plant Metal Planning Lead. The Plant Metal Planning, Lead, provides functional leadership, management, coordination, and direct activities in areas of forecasting, planning, production scheduling and inventory management. The position is responsible for ensuring Metal Input requirements and/or procurement plans are in alignment, optimizing processes and scrap, prime and other raw material flow, developing and leading improvement plans related to inventory, and cash flow management. This position is also responsible for the purchase signal and planning of all metal inputs for Uhrichsville Hot Mill. The management of metal inputs includes system wide generation of “Run-around” scrap, and third-party purchases of scrap and Hardeners (Alloy Additives). Additionally, the role will also lead and implement the ongoing development and implementation of reporting and analysis, tracking and reporting on Key Performance Indicators, lead project teams to improve input planning, actively handle inventory positions, metal flow, and forecasting, and provide and drive system support and development through project teams.

  • Maintains a safe working environment by aligning with Novelis EHS standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Operation Coordinators report directly to the Plant Metal Planning, Lead.
  • Focus on automating daily production data entry, receiving, and reporting to minimize on administrative errors.
  • Drives improvements to each of the production reporting processes using current technology and IT assets.
  • Clearly understand the metal flow, input consumption abilities, input strategy, set forth in the strategic plan.
  • Prepares, handles, and supervises BOM (Bill of Materials) requirements for M1, M2, M3, delivery performance and consumption, these projections are based off future casting requirements from the Rolling S&OP.
  • Actively forecasting run out projections for key targeted inventory to achieve the plant molten metal margin targets.
  • Own and maintains the Metal Inputs Near Term Plan (NTP)
  • Constant communication with the operations coordinators, metal buyers, and RMS (Recycling Material Specialists) around availability, inputs, plan.
  • Facilitates, captures, and communicates information on overall plant incoming quality of metal inputs (Third Party Scrap, Prime, RSI, Hardeners) to the metal buyers & suppliers as required by the plant.
  • Evaluates metal inputs and ensure accurate replenishment of raw metal including scrap and direct inputs. Ensure effective balance of scrap types to support production schedule. Apply scrap metal management tools such as Blend-master and analysis tools to run and communicate strategic scrap planning.
  • Handles inbound scrap flow using scheduling and appointment tools. Handle policies and procedures to process inbound loads through scale house.
  • Supervise and track procedures to evaluate and maintain targeted raw material input inventory levels.
  • Determine and communicate forecasting data analysis in support of Sales and Operations Planning, corporate Metals Planning, and local operations teams.
  • Leads and participates in Plant continuous improvement teams and initiatives focused on molten metal margin and raw material in inventory improvements. Sets team objectives to include CI projects to move the business forward.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned and required by the Plant Manager, Recycling Manufacturing Unit Manager, and Metals Planning, Director.
  • Provides and communicates impacts both positive and negative operationally around “Run around Scrap” RAR from the affiliate plants.
  • Communicates input availability required to achieve the Casting Schedule to the Planning team and operations analyst.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in supply chain, engineering, business, or related field and/or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years in a manufacturing environment, with experience in leadership roles
  • Background in supply chain, material scheduling, materials management or metals procurement
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and organization skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Greenbelt or higher Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Knowledge of aluminum scrap forms and processes

Location Profile

Opened in 1985 the Uhrichsville facility produces flat rolled aluminum sheet. The rolling mill cold rolls aluminum sheet to a desired gauge anneals to temper levels and slits the rolled sheet to size. Employing more than 350 people the facility produces aluminum sheet for building and construction automotive distribution transportation and consumer durable applications.
