Position Overview

 

The purpose of hiring a Material Handler for the Novelis Guthrie Recycle Center is to transport scrap aluminum and consumables integral to aluminum production safely and efficiently throughout the facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and teamwork skills, as well as a commitment to safety. They should be able to work independently and as part of a team and should be able to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. Ultimately, the successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to the continued success of our Recycle Center in Guthrie, KY.

 

Normal Work Schedule

While shift schedules may vary, Operations Technicians on shift will work rotating 12-hour shifts that alternate between days/nights throughout the month.  Our current shift model is a 2,2,3 rotation that allows for every other weekend off and time off throughout the week to allow for a better work/life balance.  Paid overtime can be volunteered or scheduled depending on business needs. The start pay is $26.15

 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with Novelis HSE standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies, procedures, and protocols, including the use of protective gear while handling aluminum products to avoid injuries and accidents.
  • Recognize and mitigate safety risks in all aspects of the job and effectively communicate about risks and exposures to others.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized to prevent accidents and promote efficiency.

  • Participate to learn and grow in a team environment to enhance the drive for excellence
  • Mentor other Material Handlers
  • Use email to communicate effectively across departments and locations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and make recommendations to supervisors.
  • Monitor instrumentation and control devices.
  • Work on assigned preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Find opportunities for continuous improvement and suggest new ideas.
  • Utilize forklifts, pallet jacks, etc., to unload, move, stack, and load various materials.
  • Transport raw materials, such as aluminum coils, ingots, and scrap, from one location within the facility to another.
  • Load and unload trucks and railcars carrying aluminum products and consumable items integral to the production process.
  • Store aluminum products in designated areas and maintain inventory records.
  • Prepare and package finished aluminum products for shipment to internal and external customers.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and tools used in handling aluminum products to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Inspect aluminum products for defects and report any issues to supervisors.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure that production targets are met.
  • Use computer systems to record and track inventory and production data.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Completed High School or have a GED.
  • Have a proven foundation and value for safety. Our priority is ensuring all our employees get home safely every day.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of work history/experience.
  • Can demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.

 

Functional Capacity Requirements:

 

  • Working in heat >80° and cold < 60°
  • Lifting to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling, sometimes in close quarters.
  • Flexibility to work 12-hour shifts in a 24/7 environment.
  • Must meet minimum overhead crane/mobile equipment operation requirements, including annual physical and vision exams.

Novelis’ Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky.  In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the city’s renewal efforts.
