Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Operations Leader! This position will be responsible for providing production support and being an active leader to the process centers in a manufacturing unit at an aluminum plant. This position works closely with various line and staff personnel at all levels of the organization. It provides guidance for continuous improvement projects, trouble shooting of various manufacturing operations, maintenance diagnostic work, developing standard operating procedures, employee training and assessment, quality issue resolution, and employee engagement.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for machine center optimization of manufacturing capabilities in efficiency & quality.
  • Incumbent must be committed to continuous improvement through active participation and leadership.
  • Develop, implement and maintain procedures.
  • Participate in customer related activities including new product development and evaluations, complaints and equipment design.
  • Support continuous development of the operators and processes.
  • Work closely with reliability / engineering to optimize equipment.
  • EHS leadership in compliance, incident reporting, risk reduction and housekeeping.
  • Ability to take ownership and resolve challenging situations.
  • Motivate employees to improve their efforts to meet Focus 5 targets and plant objectives.
  • Ensure accuracy of production data and maintain time, attendance, payroll records as required.
  • Understanding the budgetary process, inventory usage and control and the procurement process
  • Work with internal and external suppliers on areas to improve quality metrics
  • Perform root cause analysis with the involvement of operators on all quality issues and resolve
  • Understand and communicate customer expectations to operators, and ensure all products meet customer requirements.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting encounters that center around meeting production needs in the face of tight, frequently revised schedules and/or equipment failures, the start-up of new equipment, development of new products and processes.
  • Provide a strong technical understanding of processes involved in equipment/product throughout plant or within assigned unit

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Candidates who are enrolled in a degree program, but have not yet completed their degree will be considered
  • Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and encouraging a collaborative relationship
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload; ability to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs quickly
  • Must also possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing people in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a Technical field is preferred

This role’s salary starts from $77,000 per year. Individual pay will vary based on qualifications, experience, and performance. In addition to base salary, this position includes participation in a short-term incentive plan (Annual Incentive Plan - AIP or Plant Performance incentive - PPI).

Location Profile

Novelis’ Oswego facility is located on Lake Ontario in north-central New York and employs approximately 1100 people. The Oswego site produces more than a billion pounds of high-quality aluminum sheet each year in order to serve our customers in the automotive beverage can and specialty markets.
