The position holder will be responsible for metallurgy R&D activities to support the development of the aluminum sheet related technology, process and method based on business needs.

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate personal commitment to safety by following Novelis safety rules and equipment operating processes. Overall accountability for ensuring safety as the #1 priority.
• Use your expertise to develop new Aluminum alloy related to advanced properties in the field of high strength, high ductility, high corrosion resistance and low cost.
• Serve as key researcher on critical initiatives conducting research with little to no guidance.
• Independently apply the underlying principles of a technical discipline to set up and execute complex analyses.
• Provide technical leadership and support to cross-functional teams for feasibility studies to analyze the commercial and technical viability of new products and processes.
• Lead and work collaboratively with our internal partners to execute lab/pilot/plant scale trials.
• Create intellectual property to differentiate Novelis from the competition and have opportunities to present/publish your work at leading industry conferences/journals.
• Enhance our R&D capability including novel methods and techniques, equipment and quality.              

Education:

PhD degree in scientific related discipline, metallurgy or material science or related field.

Qualifications:

• Fully competent career professional with broad understanding of the relevant principles, theories and concepts within metallurgy (Aluminum) area of specialization.
• Profound expertise in the field of metallurgy, especially Al alloys development (Al sheet development experience preferred).
• Profound experience of material characterization techniques (SEM, EBSD, EDS, XRF, GDOES, ICP, XRF, FTIR, etc.).
• A passion for technical breakthroughs and a track record in demonstrating rigor in problem solving by isolating a problem and drawing upon your knowledge and experience to design an appropriate, well-controlled experiment to identify root cause and possible solutions.
• Strong data analysis skills, communication skills and ability to transfer complex technical concepts to peers and upper management. 
• Project Management experience with multiple projects.
• High level of creativity and self-initiative.
• Smooth communication skills and advanced English language.
